Dearest Radish Reader,
Springtime, everyone! Go outside
immediately! Breathe fresh air! YAY ! It's always a good idea. When in doubt,
go out!
There, my first motto of Spring. Spring is always a time of many enthusiasms
for me. HERE ARE 9, and if you include Spring itself, that makes TEN ENTHUSIASMs,
right here! Ten, count 'em, ten!
Enthusiasms: #1, Jhon has been writing me, and encourages me. How wonderful to be encouraged. Encourage others often!
Enthusiasm #2 - Akhal-Teke
horses. Look them up, they are really beautiful. My friend wrote a book about
them, it's called "Sacred Horses: Adventures of a Turkmen Cowboy."
It's in the library. I haven't read it yet, though. The Akhal-Teke horses
are the fastest, have the most stamina, and are the most beautiful. Go to
the website
http://www.middleeastinfo.org/forum/index.php?s=77262268962923891e669787301284ba&showtopic=9279
and also go to www.Corbis.com and do a search of their photos for akhal teke.
Wow! also, their riders wear very wild looking furry hats.
Enthusiasm #3 - I am working on 3 new books, I'll give you an update soon. More drawing lessons and adventures! In stores NEXT spring, 2009. (!)
Enthusiasm #4 - swimming !
There's this Speedo Swim to cure malaria, and I'm doing that. If you like
to swim, you can do some good.
www.WorldSwimAgainstMalaria.comO
Click on "find out more." And If you look up my name you'll see
my manatee picture. There are lots of pictures of people swimming, all over
the world. I love that!
Enthusiasm #5 - in the spirit of the season, my sister and I came up with this: &&&&& @@@@ It's five little tiny peeps each balancing a pototo chip on its head, followed by four jellyfish who have just eaten alphabet soup.
Enthusiasm #6 - If you go to My Recipes on my website - I've been making Mom's yummy cookie cutter cookies , adding 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and 2 tsp coffee (ground for drip) and decorating. YEAH ! FUN !

Enthusiasm #7 - Then also - the smallest radish. I made this. I think you'll enjoy it. You can make one, too.
Enthusiasm #8 - Write letters by hand! Illustrate them. I haven't heard from Rob in a while but he always sent me wonderful letters. Here's my hand-written letter in which I actually witnessed a duck fall over a waterfall, and also my dishwasher was mysteriously repaired. In the new-fangled way, you may read it on your computer screen - but it's still hand-written, complete with a P.S.
Enthusiasm #9 - In Spring, draw flowers: as you know I am a flower fanatic. Parrot tulips have always been a favorite. viz. (that means, "see," you find it in old-fashiioned writing.)

Joy

Dearest Radish Reader,
On the train to work, I heard the conductor announce, "Try to have a nice day in spite of the weather." and that made me MAD ! I love all weather, and I don't think anyone should presume that heavy rains and high winds are bad. Humpf.
Bad Weather has a defender in me! So there.
WINDOWSILL GARDENER's DISCOVERY! I bought watercress in the store, and I clipped the stem ends and put it in water with my philodendron cuttings. The watercress made roots in just a few days. I think the philodendron cuttings encourage rooting. Try it!
Here's my windowsill with philodendrons, before I added watercress. The philodendron is the big green leaf with a shape like a donkey's head (if donkey's had pointy noses.) Everything I put in that vase makes roots like crazy! Oh and do you like my goose measuring cups? Reminds me of a childrens' story - I wonder which one? Ping? But Ping was a duck... hmmmm.

PS - Hi to Susan and Shura, my new friends. Shura means Courage in Russian, I am told. Thanks for the baklava and the pink button with a kitty face on it! See you soon! Jo
Love,
Joy
