rubber bands

Publishing companies use an awful lot of large rubber bands. When they break on you, they pack a wallop!

We taped them to my office door like trophies.

So, although we might cry "OW!" and feel resentful at the indignity and unfairness of it all, we would also think at the same time, "ANOTHER TROPHY for Joy's door!"

You could write a note on your broken rubber band, too, if you wanted.
