Text & Study Aid in pdf format.Dear Teachers,Squeaky Chalk is a talk-aloud book.
When presenting Squeaky Chalk to your class, you don't have to read the words in the book, you simply tell the story by looking at the pictures. The children can read the words later to find out more. The story takes place in an old industrial city. If you are teaching in Paterson New Jersey, you can talk about OUR city, and you will recognize the waterfall, weasel mountain, Molly Ann's brook, the old mills, and more.
But all older cities have special wonderful things like this. How to use this guide: 88 pages of the book are used here for reading the story. Mark the pages of your Squeaky Chalk book with Post-it Notes. When you turn to that page, say the words I have written here. (The indented words and the words in parentheses are only suggestions for further conversation and study, you don't read those aloud.)
When I make this Squeaky Chalk presentation, it takes me about 20 minutes. After that we all draw and color from the pages of the book. A convenient way to do this is to have photocopies of the drawing lessons, which children draw and exchange.
This guide is in pdf format. Pages 1-10 are the complete set.
